Weight gain continues

Amelia was weighed this morning and tipped the scales at 6lb 12oz which is a gain of around 6 ounces for the week - very acceptable.

She's feeding anywhere between every 2 and 4 hours at the moment which is hard obviously but hey, who's complaining. Her wide awake time seems to be from 11pm until 2am which is quite testing to say the least so any suggestions as to how we can pull it back a couple of hours would be greatly appreciated.

Auntie Lu-Lu here for the weekend so Anna and I are off galavanting for a couple of hours. Yeehar.

Meet the mums

Yesterday Anna had her first post-natal class. Actually correct that, she had her first 'natal' class of any kind! There were 6 other mums with babies younger than Amelia, all of them considerably larger by all accounts. Apparently the two health visitors running the class couldn't keep their hands off her.

No-Show

Well Tuesdays and Fridays are when our health visitor is due to weigh Amelia and check that she's OK but as of now she's been conspicuous by her absence today. This means that I don't have a current weight for you today unfortunately. Maybe later.

Back On Track

At Friday's weigh-in Amelia had gained a whopping 4 ounces to tip the scales at 6lb 6oz! Sharp-eyed visitors will note that this means she is now exactly 3 times her original birthweight. If you've seen her recently and noted how small she still is it's incredible to think how tiny she was back then. Here she is after a guzzle earlier this afternoon.

Dereliction of duty

Sorry folks I know this week has been woefully short of news but as you all know that basically means there ain't a lot to tell. No news is good news etc. Amelia is feeding like a buzzard at the moment. By that of course I mean she's going through a lot, not circling around the living room and then settling on Anna after she's stopped moving for a minute or two.

Amy will have been weighed this morning but my correspondent on the ground hasn't checked in with the figure so I'll post it later. In the meantime have good weekends one and all and we'll try and get back on the case next week.

Hit For Six

Another small milestone this morning with Amelia weighing in at 6lbs 2oz, up 3oz from Friday. This means that by Friday of this week she'll be almost 3 times her original birthweight. Weird eh?

The Generation Game

Quite a historic weekend with all three of Ffelsh & Grousie's grandchildren with them at the same time. We descended on Andover where Kate laid on the food and we laid on the entertainment. Such as it was mind you as young Amelia managed to keep her eyes shut for the duration of their flying 3 and half hour visit only to awaken as they sped away back to Manchester.

I think it had been 2 months since they last saw her incredibly and this was of course in the hospital when she was still attached to all the wires and tubes. I hope being able to pick her up for a cuddle that first time free of all impediments was as fun for them as it was for me.

Small gain

Amelia was weighed this morning and is now 5lb 15oz which is up just an ounce and a half on Tuesday and leaves us tantalizingly short of the 6lb mark. No cause for concern of course as she'd been gaining an ounce a day up until that point. She's also been a great deal more active this week which could give rise to more energy being expended.

On the whole Amelia is absolutely storming along and becoming more of a character every day. She's feeding every 3-4 hours and usually has an awake time late evening which is nice. She seems to have settled into her new environment very well and appears to be pretty happy most of the time. We're deliriously happy all the time, except when a suspected burp turns out to be more liquid that air.

Soap-dodger No More

If it's possible this early on we got our first broad smile out of Amelia last night at bathtime. She'd been somewhat restless all evening but as soon as the water touched her head her mood completely changed and she was loving every minute of it. I wasn't able to operate the camera at the same time but here she is having been dried off.

Weigh To Go

This morning Amelia tipped the scales at 5lb 13.5oz which is 3.5oz up on Friday so she's keeping up her weight gain of approximately an ounce a day.

A Family Day Out

This morning despite the drizzle we decided that we'd get the pushchair out and give the lady some fresh air. A brief amble around Winchester ensued in-between the odd coo from passers by.

Back at the ranch we met up with Matt and Leisa who came to see Amy for the first time in around a month. They brought booty (ta) as did Jan, Terry and Pam Trodd who dropped off all sorts of excellent goodies (ta). To cap it all City held the filthy Reds to a draw down at the swamp. Job done lads.

Amy Was Due Today

Yes, incredible as it may seem Ameila was actually due on November 6th. Last night Jane and Chris came to babysit while Anna & I went out to watch the fireworks. It was really peculiar to think that after all that's happened in the last 3 months, Anna should still be pregnant with Amy inside her.

Amy is now 5lbs 10oz and getting quite chunky. She's still sicking up a bit but it's obviously not affecting her growth. This morning she's in a dress and tights for the first time. I really never thought I'd see the day.

Not At Home

Amelia is going to have to learn that for people to really like you, you have to rub them up the right way. Poor Tom & Carrie drove all the way down to see Amy last night after swine days at work and she spent the whole time in her room asleep. To add insult to injury no sooner had they sped off home again around 10:00PM when madame decided to wake up for another recital of the 'stomach symphony' - a version which this time included several encores and lasted through til the wee small hours.

Also I know I promised pictures and haven't delivered so yes I am a bad, bad man. I promise I'll take a couple tonight and post them.

Eat, sleep etc

Amelia is really keeping us on our toes at the moment needing a feed every 2-3 hours. The problem is she's not keeping it all down and having quite a lot of wind too so the whole process is taking about an hour each time. She seems to have a bit of a snuffle too which means she's not sleeping too soundly and neither therefore are we.

All part of what we signed up for I know but it's still quite a shock to the system. More pics tomorrow.

Out & About

Well Amelia made her first public appearances this weekend with a stroll around Alresford on Saturday and a visit to Southampton's Art Deco fair on Sunday. She seems to enjoy the fresh air and we barely lasted 5 minutes yesterday before people were peering over to see our tiny tyke.

Last night however could rank as the worst night's sleep I've ever had. Having finally got to bed at 12:30AM Amy was awake at 1:30, 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30 for feeds. I'm typing like a zombie at the moment. Parenthood - bliss.
