I leave you for 5 minutes....
Yesterday was quite eventful. Having spent the morning with Anna and had some lunch I decided it was time to venture into work and allow my thoughts to focus on something more mundane. I left around 2:00 and having spent several enthralling hours catching up with God knows what, arrived back at the hospital around 7:00 for some rather pleasant news.
Apparently Anna, having delivered her second batch of milk of the day downstairs, was asking one of the staff nurses when Amy might open her eyes. Right on cue, her left eyelid just raised a tiny bit and then closed again - trust me to miss that one. After that the doctor arrived to tell Anna that they were seriously considering taking Amy off the ventilator to see how she'd cope! I couldn't believe it. I thought it would be ages before that would happen.
Tom and Carrie arrived early evening but I was downstairs with Amy to ask if I could take the camera in just in time to see the ventilator being taken off! I saw Amy's face without any obstructions for the first time and I couldn't believe how unprepared I was. Such tiny features which appeared so peaceful with such a busy crowd standing around - if only she knew. I nearly choked there and then and to be honest thinking about it now is catching me out a bit.
Basically it's quite early to be trying her without the ventilator so there is every chance that they may have to put her back on it but it was still great news and Tom and Carrie arrived at one of those really significant moments.
I'm off to the hospital shortly and half expect them to say she's back on it but I'm hoping not. It's actually quite hard to take even good news because it'll make even the slightest hiccup more of a disappointment. Anyway I did take a couple of snaps yesterday evening, one of Amy under the sunlamp again without the ventilator although she is still receiving Oxygen through her nose, and Anna sitting by her side.
